Church of the Conception of St. Anne

Church of the Conception of St. Anne is one of the oldest white stone orthodox churches in Moscow. The church was known since the end of the 15th century, but the current building was erected after the fire in the XVI century. The church was often honored with the attention of the royal family. There was kept the miraculous image of the Mother of God, given to the temple by Ivan the Terrible. Also, the church was famous for a very heavy bell made in Western Europe. In the Time of Troubles the bell was taken from the church, but it was bought out and returned to the place by Prince Pozharsky. Beside the main altar in the church there are also two side chapels, consecrated in honor of martyr Mina Kotuansky and martyr Catherine. In modern times the Church of the Conception of St. Anne has lost its original appearance. Now there are held numerous restoration works.
