Bulgakov State Museum is the first museum and the only one in Russia dedicated to Mikhail Bulgakov`s life and work. It was founded in 2007.
The museum is a meeting point for three epochs of Russian reality – postsoviet reality, reality of Soviet past (life and culture), reality of pre-October Russia, the one in which Michael Bulgakov lived for 26 years. Multifacetedness of Bulgakov`s work enables us to find something that unites all three epochs and Bulgakov museum goes on to look for similarities.
Zemskay`s and Svetlaeva`s (Bulgakov nieces) and V.F.Dimenko`s (the president of international charity fund named after Bulgakov) collections make up the core of the museum. In 2012 the collection was replenished by pieces of furniture and clothes from the last writer`s flat that were given y K.L.Tarasevich (son of E.S.Bulgakova`s close acquaintance L.K.Tarasevich).
