Memorial Museum of Astronautics is a museum dedicated to space. It is situated within the base part of the Monument to the Conquerors of Space in Cosmonauts alley.
The museum was opened on the 10th of April in 1981 to commemorate the 20th anniversary since J.A.Gagarin`s first flight to space. Samples of rockets and space equipment, cosmonauts` and constructors` personal things, record files, object of numismatics and philately are exhibited in the museum.
During a 3-year period (2006-2009) the Memorial Museum of Astronautics, the Monument to the Conquerors of Space and Cosmonauts Alley were being reconstructed. After the reconstruction a few new rooms were opened in the museum, namely, a conference hall, a library mainly with literature about space exploration, a café. The cinema hall was renovated.
Now the exposition includes a Mir State model, everyone can come inside this model. Victors can find a special hall with space – flight trainers and give themselves a try.
To observe how the International Space Station moves and to see life broadcasts from space guests can visit an affiliate of the mission control center situated in the new part of museum.
In the entrance hall everyone can buy “space” food in tubes.
