 Victory Park

Victory park is a memorial complex dedicated to the Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945.
In 1958 on Hill of Respectful Salutation was set up a memorable granite sign with an inscription: "Here will be constructed a monument to the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945". At that time trees were planted, and a park was built that was given the name of Victory. The whole complex occupies the territory of 135 hectares. The complex was opened to the 50th anniversary of the Victory in 1995.
The main alley "War years" that is situated between Victory Square and the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War is made up of 5 benches that symbolize 5 years of the war. There are 225 fountains that symbolize 225 weeks of the war. In the centre of the square is an obelisk that is 141,8 meters high with goddess Nike who personifies victory on the top. Near the pedestal of the obelisk on the granite podium one can see the statue of Saint George killing a serpent with a lance. This statue symbolizes the victory of the good over the bad.
In Victory park you can see an open-air exhibition of military equipment and engineer and fortification buildings. Here are exhibited more than 300 instances of heavy equipment of the USSR and its allies, Germany and its allies that took part in military operations.
