Central Museum of civil Defence of the USSR was founded in 1983 and was reogarnized into Central Museum of Department on Extremely Situations of the Russian Federation in 1994.
Today Central Museum of Department on Extremely Situations of the Russian Federation has a large exposition housed in 4 halls and visual lecture room. In the museum you can discover the history of civil defence and disaster control in the 20th c. (the beginning of the century to the 80s). There are unique materials and exhibits in the museum which tell us about all German air attacks during WWII, tell us about courageous deeds of local air defence units in the course of the rectification of the consequences, tell us how local air defence forces contributed to the victory in WWII (1941-1945). Moreover, the exposition accumulated materials and exhibits connected with the rectification of the consequences after Chernobyl disaster, after the Spitak earthquake, after earthquakes in Sakhalin and Iturup and after other natural disasters and emergencies.
