The Assumption Cathedral is an orthodox church located in the Cathedral Square of the Moscow Kremlin. It was erected in 1475-1479 under the supervision of Italian architect Aritotel Fioravanti. It was the main church of the Moscow State. It is the most ancient building in Moscow that is fully preserved. The 1326-1327 Assumption Cathedral was Moscow’s first stone church fashioned after the Georgiyevskiy Cathedral in Yuryev-Polskiy. The Cathedral was built using a technique which was typical of those times: roughly worked white stone quadras were laid in combination with smoothly hewn architectural decoration elements. It was closed to access and worship in March 1918 after the Russian government moved there. It was opened as a museum in 1955.
