 The Kremlin Armoury. Moscow excursions

The Kremlin Armoury, Moscow museum-treasury, is a part of the Grand Kremlin Palace. It is located in a building built in 1851 by architect Konstantin Ton. The basis of the museum collection includes precious artefacts made in Kremlin workshops which were stored in the tsar treasure and patriarchal vestry for centuries, and also artefacts offered by embassies of foreign states. The museum owes its name to one of the most ancient treasuries. Since 1960, the Kremlin Armoury has formed part of the Moscow Kremlin State museums. The Moscow Armoury collection includes unique masterpieces of 12th–early 20th century Russian goldsmiths and silversmiths, collections of 13th–19th century Western European art silver, 12th–19th century arms art monuments, and Russia’s military decorations, luxurious precious fabrics, ancient Russian secular and ecclesiastic clothing, 18th–20th century gala costumes, state regalia, gala horse harnesses and the rarest collection of 16th–18th ancient coaches. The museum stores the Monomakh Cap, the Jericho helmet–cap, and also many other rare pieces. The museum exhibits about four thousand monuments of the applied and decorative arts of Russia, 4th–20th century European and Oriental states. Their highest artistic level and a special historic and cultural value brought global fame to the Moscow Kremlin Armoury.
